Hitchhiking in Belarus it's pretty easy.
The number of drivers who ask for money to give you a ride is small.
The more I travel the less such people meet me. It's better to travel in
couple (guy+girl). But it's really doomed to collapse if you will
hitchhiking more than 2 people at once. Cars usually stop more often
than in Poland, but drivers never take more than 2 people in their car.
All drivers that stop are usually don't speak any language except
Russian or "Trasianke"( the mishmash of Belarusian+Russian). Most
drivers that don't have higher education don't hesistate to use abusive
words when they talk to you. But these words aren't directed to you, but
to the living standards, preisident and government :). Russian and
Baltic Truck drivers are almost never stop to give a ride to
hitch-hiker. But Belarusian and Polish truck drivers do it pretty often.
The only time when it's hard to hitch-hiking is at the beginning of
week-end during study time. It's also pretty hard to stop a car at
night, but possible. The average car waiting time is about 20 minutes.
It's better to travel using main roads than local ones couse road
traffic on the last ones is pretty poor.
