All places in this book have been actually visited in 1995. To achieve this, 55 000 miles were travelled (by car!) by the author.
All quoted main roads and motorway supply roads were driven along in search of the best place to start hitch-hiking.
This means that not quoted main roads are less or not suitable for hitch-hiking.
Five of the 171 towns and cities were not researched on the spot itself.
