i would be very grateful, if somone could share me some experience about crossing seas by hitchhiking. i am im copenhagen at the moment and want to get back to latvia quickly, so i am not feling like going the common way through germany, poland and lithuania. i suppose getting a lift by a truck crossing the baltic sea from any por in denmark or sweden to latvia, lithuania or estonia could make my trip faster. besides, i have got a bicycle and have no idea how carrying it with me can affect my possibilities of getting lifts. so, could anyone recommend me something?

if possible, please answer me via e-mail.

If somebody thumb-ride people(Vilnius club stc.) need a acommodation in Helsinki,
send e-mail me, please. Tips -It need 2 days (usually) hitch from
southern Finland to North -
Lappland(1100 km) if you use road E4. In local road you need more time, but you see more, too.
If you need information about hitch in Finland...
Im hitch here in Skandinavia and in other Europe since 1980.
Timo

This is just a short note to tell you that we have finally launched the English forums on the www.hike.ru news
portal. Everything seems to work now. So you are most welcome to our hitchhiking news portal, the meeting place of
many hitchhikers of Russia and other NIS countries. You are most likely to find answers to your questions on our
region there. You can access the English page either via this link:
www.hike.ru/?newlang=eng
or using the direct link to the English forums:

Hiking is the best. Look up some good hiking walking in England, one of the best places to hike, never too oppresively hot, never too cold. Views are superb in lots of places, lush green meadows, wonderful hills.

Hello from San Francisco, USA:

I am leaving for a 3 year around-the-world trip in October. I am excited to visit Lithuiania, I'll be hitch-hiking from England.

If anyone knows of a good cheap fun place to stay, I'd appreciate the tip. I'll also be willing to work to stretch my trip out as long as possible.

See ya in a couple months,
Nick

Dear all

We are currently working on a book of hitch-hiking anecdotes, views and observations written by contributors from all walks of life. This collection aims to document the varied experiences of hitch-hikers and those giving lifts in order that an exemplary record can be established for general publication.

It is clear that hitch-hiking enabled a great number of people, particularly young people, to travel great distances for free, expand their minds and interact with others before the advent of cheap air travel and mass tourism.

Moreover, given that transport issues are today of great importance, more public knowledge of this almost defunct activity may be illuminating and even inspiring. We have already received contributions from a diverse group of individuals including Arnold Wesker, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Steven Pinker, Alistair Campbell, Sir Max Hastings, Deedar Zaman, Jeremy Vine, George Monbiot, Annie Nightingale, Nigel West, Will Durst and Lembit Opik MP, intent from Sir Alan Parker, Doug Stanhope, Theodore Dalrymple, Tony Hawks, Peter Tatchell, Loudon Wainwright, David Nobbs, Michael Rosen, Jeffrey Lewis, Dave Douglass and Mike Leigh and significant interest from Country Joe MacDonald, Will Self, Bill Bryson and Noam Chomsky.

With all this in mind, we write to ask if you would consider freely contributing an anecdote or view, however long or short, by mid-July for publication in due course. Should you choose to contribute, we will be in touch with you again to request your permission to use your piece. We will give every contributor a free copy of the book on publication.

Yours sincerely

Tom and Simon Sykes
