03-05 10 2008 The 12th anniversary of VHHC was celebrated on 3-5 October, 2008. Club's birthday celebration is an annual event with traditional awards for the best club's travellers of the year and inauguration of club's novices. There were even 25 participants. During the weekend celebration the traditional annual awards were issued for best female hitch-hiker of the year (Katja Lachman, over 10.000 km) and best male hitch-hiker of the year (Robert Prins, over 16.000 km). It should be admitted, that Katja Lachman has received this award for the 3rd time already (year 2006, 2007 and 2008). It is the first time in the club's history when female hitch-hiker is awarded for the 3 times with this award. Also it is the first time in VHHC's history when both winners are foreigners - German and Dutch.

20-24 06 2008 Lithuanian Hitch-hiking Gathering took place on 20-24 June 2008 in natural surrounding of Đalčininkai, Lithuania. Even 49 participants from Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Greece, Czech Republic, Brasil and Australia took part in this great meeting!

3-8 06 2008 VHHC's member Robert Prins has travelled Oostende (B) - Luxembourg (L) - bus to Frankfurt Hahn - flight to Porto - Porto (P) - Luxembourg (L) - Oostende (B), 2728 km. Trip was with his hitchhiking partner Inga Lukoseviciute from HC, who had never hitched before.
The trip went very fast (around 53 hours for the Porto to Luxembourg section and their longest wait was 1:20, which included lunch... Trip from Oostende to Lux was slow, 12 rides for 360 km, back was OK, did it in four rides in less than four hours, on a Sunday!

14-15 05 2008 Club's member Robert Prins has travelled Oostende (B) - De Bilt (NL) - Oostende (B), 501.5 km.

19-20 04 2008 29 pairs of hitchhikers participated in the 13^th anual public hitch-hiking competition "Baltics 2008". Winners are Dainius Kinderis and Marija Lapinaite (the first place), Ringaile Jurgeleviciute and Vilija Zilinskaite (the second place), Ieva Galvosaite and Aivaras Galatiltis (the third place). The route of the competition was in Lithuania and Latvia.

20 03 2008 Winners of best Lithuanian traveller of the year 2007 contest were announced this day. We are very happy about the fact, that most of the best travellers are HITCH-HIKERS! The best traveller is VHHC's member, former vice-president of the club Augustas Kligys, currently with other club's member Katja Lachman travelling in South America. This traveller was already elected as the best traveller of VHHC in 1997 and the best decade traveller (1996-2006) of the club according to the number of kilometres, covered by hitchhiking. Congratulations to the best traveller - Augustas!

18 03 2008 First time in the history of the club Augustas Kligys and Katja Lachmann got a free ride by an airplane. They air-hitched a commercial aircraft from Iquitos to Lima in Peru.

28-29 02 2008 Club's member Robert Prins has hitchhiked from Belgium to Luxembourg and back with 14 rides. It was the third time in Robert's life when he has been hitchhiking on the 29^th February!

26 01 - 05 03 3008 Two club's members, Andrius Jankaitis and Vita Vadoklyte traveled 40 days in South East Asia. Route trip: Vilnius – Hong Kong - Macao - Singapore - Malaysia (Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Penang) – Laos (Vientiane, Pakse, Don Det) - Cambodia (Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Siem Reap) - Thailand (Bangkok, Ayutthaya) - Indonesia (Kuta/Bali) - Vilnius.
