All hitchers in
Lithuanian hitch-hiking team are experienced hitchhikers and their numbers prove it. There
are 8 sportsmen in this team at the moment and also there are about 15 candidates to enter
the team.
Lithuanian hitchhikers started to take part in International competitions in 1991. There
was no very experienced team in VGTU Tourists’ Club Autostop section.
Since there was founded Vilnius Hitch-hiking
Club in Lithuania there was developed the hitch-hikers training system. It was created
for experienced hitchhikers training for participating in hitchhiking competition. Also
this experience helps people while passing long distances in bad conditions (bad roads,
night, borders’ crossing and so on).
First hitch-hiker who got the name of exririenced hitcher and got the first number in
Lithuanian team was Vladas
Sapranavicius, the founder of VHHC.
The system consists of these lectures: choosing of the route, choosing of the position,
hitchhiking at night, preparing for a competition and so on. Practical skill probationers
acquire in a competition, when participating in one pair with an experienced hitch-hiker.
